Arthur Ashe Aunt Presents Awards To USTA NorCal Section Winners At Bear Trax 2009

It was another great honor to have Arthur Ashes aunt to visit again and present the NorCal Section winners of the Arthur Ashe essay held this year. The Bear Trax group consisted of six essay winners and one for the art on the national level. We are very proud of them. Mrs Odessa Staggers then presented Wesley Augustine our First Serve Student Athletic boys high school winner with a racquet that Arthur Ashe gave to her when he played #1 at U.C.L.A. he said he will cherish it forever.

It can truly be said that Arthur Ashe wishes continues for his NJTL program as YTAs
Bear Trax on the campus of U.C. Berkeley had the honor of having his Aunt Ms Odessa
Staggers, her son Jonathan and granddaughter visit the college pathway program. Ms
Staggers a retired school teacher talked about the importance of education and life
skills she once told Arthur when his mother passed away. Her son former professional
football player and now Transformational Healer at the Rising Hope Spiritual Wellness
Center. He had the juniors do an exercise on breathing and controlling their bodies.

The Executive Director of Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA) was also in attandance along
with the parents of the juniors. The Staggers were very pleased with the program and
said that they will again visit in the future.

The Bank of the West Kids Dinner was truly a great event this year. With everyone
pitching in and helping out even the juniors got involved by offering prizes in
balloons to the guest and had the chance to get some of the prizes given to them as
well. The mothers of juniors were helping as well and all looking beautiful, the
highlight was a junior Jennifer Solomon telling of her experience in YTA and how it
will help her continue as she head off to college at USC. All the juniors were acknowledged for their work at Bear Trax, Wesley and Ray for working with YTA at
the site. Nick had the chance to talk to the supporters before he leaves for college.

Kids Town Hall at Stanford

All the Bear Trax members had a great time at Stanford watching Venus and Serena practice and watched a match. The parents came alone and even helped our Executive
Director set up the YTA booth. Two of the juniors won tickets to Six Flaggs in a raffle and were very happy. We will attend again on Wed. for the Kids Dinner where
eight (8) of our juniors will be present to talk about their essays on Arthur Ashe.
